When Reguera first travelled to The Netherlands he felt like he was re-encountering the aesthetic world of his native Castilian landscape—its extremely Rothkian horizons. This impulse gave rise to a series of sketches that did not initially materialise into paintings but were stored away in the artist’s memory. He made mental sketches of his experience of landscapes at a particular moment, which later inspired this series of paintings.
